Wayanad

The only place in Kerala which is part of a Plateau. About 46% of the area in Wayanad is covered by forest and another substantial area by plantations. Wayanad has the largest tribal population in Kerala with 8 scheduled tribes including Adiyan, Paniyan, Mullukkurman, Kurichyan, Vettakkuruman, Wayanad Kadar, Kattuniakkan and Thachaanadan Mooppan. Wayanad borders both Karnataka and Tamilnadu states. Its forests are part of the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve spread across all three states. Thirunelli Temple is estimated to be more than 5000 years old and Edakkal caves with paintings dated as far as 6000 years. There are also many ancient Jain Temples in Wayanad.

Thiruvananthapuram

The capital city of Kerala is best known for its historic monuments and temples. Part of the erstwhile Trvancore Kingdom which ruled Thiruvananthapuram, it is adorned with Padmanabhaswamy Temple, forts and museusms depicting the life and culture of this place. Kovalam and Varkala beaches are two other attractions to be seen, along with natures bounty in the wildlife sanctuaries and protected reserve forest destinations or Neyyar, Peppara, and Shendurney wildlife sanctuaries.

Thekkady

Thekkady (Idukki district) is a town near Periyar National Park, an important tourist attraction in the state of Kerala, India. The name Thekkady is derived from the word “thekku” which means teak. Temperatures are lowest in the months of December–January and highest in the months of April–May. Thekkady is situated about 257 km (160 mi) from Trivandrum, 145 km from Cochin International Airport and 114 km from Kottayam railway station. It is 4 km from Kumily, a plantation town on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands.

Munnar

Munnar is a town and hill station located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above mean sea level, in the Western Ghats mountain range. Munnar is also called the “Kashmir of South India” and is a popular honeymoon destination. There are also options for Wildlife tours in the three different Shola National Parks, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, and Eravikulam National Park. Munnar also has the highest peak in Kerala, the Anamudi Peak.

Kumarakom

Kumarakom is a tourism destination located near the city of Kottayam (10 kilometres (6 mi)), in Kerala, India, known for its backwater tourism. It is set in the backdrop of the Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in the state of Kerala. In January 2023, when Kerala was listed by The New York Times in their “52 places to go in 2023” list, Kumarakom got a special mention for its backwater tourism.

Cochin

Nicknamed the Queen of the Arabian Sea, Kochi was an important spice trading center on the west coast of India from antiquity. Kochi has been described as the financial, commercial, and industrial capital of Kerala. Kochi is the only city in the country to have a water metro system. Kochi’s rich cultural heritage has made it a popular tourist destination among both domestic and international travellers. The Chinese fishing nets, introduced during the 14th century by the Chinese, are a symbol of the city and a popular tourist attraction in themselves. Other landmarks include Mattanchery Palace, Marine Drive, Venduruthy Bridge, Church of Saint Francis and Mattanchery Bridge.
